Time-tested Enterprise Mobility Systems and Platforms In 2014
What significant changes did enterprise mobility sector witness in 2013? What did these changes mean to vendors and customers?
If 2012 was all about setting the stage for enterprise mobility, the year 2013 was all about organizations going into the specifics, for instance, assessing the enterprise mobility needs vis-à-vis the organization as well as customers, defining the relevant mobility strategy, apportioning funds for development and implementation, and taking care of the related security, legal and compliance aspects.
A lot of changes in the enterprise mobility space are being dictated by customer tastes and preferences, and same was the case in 2013, as organizations worked to get the right mobility matrix that would suit internal as well as customer needs. Some organizations did well by implementing BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) aggressively, even with critical, persistent security challenges, whereas others worked on ironing out the pertinent issues before initiating the implementation phase.
Overall, year 2013 worked with no major deviations from the core objectives such as improved process efficiency; a wireless world promoting anytime, anywhere access; accelerated progress on the convergence dynamics; failsafe identification of individual machines, systems and users, and secure communication between these components. The idea of a cashless, paperless world also witnessed significant progress in 2013 with cutting-edge enterprise mobility solutions.
What are some of the changes you had anticipated would happen in 2013, but did not happen?
Tough call. A lot is happening in the enterprise mobility space. If we talk about now, enterprises are just scratching the surface of a relatively untapped world. It will take a few more years to get a clear picture, to not only set the expectations, but also have ways and means to achieve them.
How will you comment on the statement "Enterprise mobility as a standard operating procedure in 2014"?
Certainly. Enterprise mobility has turned out to be a proven game-changer, and experts are even terming it as a strategy that if done right, provides an ‘unfair’ advantage over competitors. As more and more decision makers realize the value it brings to people and processes, and customers, we are likely to witness increased implementations, not only at large enterprises but also with niche players that include small and medium size enterprises. IT outsourcing spends at most organizations will see increased allocations for enterprise mobility in 2014.
Can you paint us the picture of how the landscape for enterprise mobility sector will change in 2014? What are some of the broader trends you are closely watching?
I think year 2014 will be another year of consolidation, with more focus on implementing time-tested enterprise mobility systems and platforms. Trendsetters will no doubt take greater risks and may come up with completely innovative mobility solutions, but the larger market will go for workable strategies that can guarantee desired results.
I foresee a lot of progress in enabling differentiated user experiences that will be powered via augmented reality apps and integrated customer engagement. On the enterprise front, the trends will continue to witness increased focus on developing context based applications that will be used for learning, training, accessing enterprise services, and informal communication and social interactions.
We are also keeping a sharp eye for the changing dynamics in the world of handheld devices that includes smartphones, tablet PCs and other wireless devices. Changes here will dictate enterprise mobility strategies of global enterprises. Since security concerns will have to be accounted for, I believe operating systems and related platforms and applications that provide improved security without losing on the ease-of-access and user-friendliness aspects, will find favor with the majority of consumers.
How will customer spends change in 2014 for enterprise mobility sector? What makes you think customers will be buying more/ less?
Increased convergence and a wireless world is set to be the future, so spends are likely to be more for the enterprise mobility sector in 2014.
